Techniques for Content Subscription Anonymity with Distributed Brokers

چکیده
When issuing a one-shot or continuous content-based subscription, there is an inherent tradeoff between the privacy of the subscriber and the accuracy of the matching notifications. The former can be described in terms of how well the exposed information uniquely characterized the subscriber, and the latter how well the returned data items match the subscriber’s real interests. In this paper, we define the partial order based k-filter anonymity, which generalizes k-location anonymity by allowing the generalization of filters using the subsumption or covering relation. We then develop techniques for assessing and maintaining content anonymity in distributed broker-based content routing and publish/subscribe networks, namely filter generalization based on partial orders, a logically centralized broker for determining pairwise k-anonymous subscription paths, and optimizations for pairwise anonymity level detection.

Subscription Summarization: A New Paradigm
We contribute a new paradigm for publish/subscribe systems. It is centered on the novel notion of subscription summarization. We first present the summarization structures for a broker’s subscriptions and accompanying algorithms, which operate on the summary structures to match incoming events to the brokers with relevant subscriptions and for the maintenance of subscriptions in the face of upd...
متن کاملContent–based Dynamic Routing in Structured Overlay Networks
Acyclic overlays used for broker–based publish/subscribe systems provide unique paths for content–based routing from a publisher to interested subscribers. Cyclic overlays may provide multiple paths, however, the subscription broadcast process generates one contentbased routing path per subscription. This poses serious challenges in offering dynamic routing of notifications when congestion is d...
متن کاملComposite Subscriptions in Content-Based Publish/Subscribe Systems
Abstract. Distributed publish/subscribe systems are naturally suited for processing events in distributed systems. However, support for expressing patterns about distributed events and algorithms for detecting correlations among these events are still largely unexplored. Inspired from the requirements of decentralized, event-driven workflow processing, we design a subscription language for expr...

متن کاملEfficient Distributed Event Processing using Subscription Summaries in Large Scale Publish/Subscribe Systems
A key issue when designing and implementing large-scale publish/subscribe systems is how to efficiently propagate user subscriptions among the brokers of the system. In this paper we contribute the notion of broker subscription summaries and accompanying distributed and scalable algorithms for subscription summary propagation and event filtering and routing. In addition we present a performance...
